Donna Summer's classics were at the forefront of Sunday night's (June 10) Tony Awards, which was hosted by Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban at New York's Radio City Music Hall. However, the tribute performance was all that much sweeter since the late disco diva's three daughters introduced the Summer: The Donna Summer Musical number.
Brooklyn Sudano, Mimi Sommer, and Amanda Sudano took the stage halfway into the ceremony to pay homage to their late mother and it made for a true evening highlight from one generation to another. For their performance of "Last Dance," members of the Broadway smash turned the famed NYC venue into a disco dance party for the 1978 classic. And, yes, it included just as much sequin and shimmying as you would expect from a Donna Summer tribute. Summer: The Donna Summer Musical received nominations in categories like Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical and Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical
It was one of the many performances of the night from Broadcast's current batch of shows, including The Band's Visit, Rodgers & Hammerstein's Carousel, Frozen, Mean Girls, My Fair Lady, Once On This Island, and SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical. Scroll on below to see a clip from the performance!
