Drivers in Columbia and Dutchess counties should prepare for road closures and slowdowns this week due to the transport of an oversized load. The New York State Department of Transportation announced that traffic will be impacted from Tuesday (December 17) through Thursday (December 19) between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., and on Friday (December 20) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Roads affected include state Route 23B, state Route 23, U.S. Route 9, state Route 115, and state Route 9G.
According to Times Union, the transport involves moving transformers from Hudson to a facility in Dover, Dutchess County. The vehicles carrying the load will travel at a maximum speed of 5 mph, causing temporary road closures of up to 15 minutes at various points.
New York Transco, the company responsible for the transport, is working with local authorities to ensure a safe delivery. Shannon Baxevanis, Transco’s Director of Communications and Public Affairs, emphasized that safety is a top priority and advised the public to avoid construction sites and equipment.
The New York State Department of Transportation is overseeing the transport to ensure safety and minimize disruption. Motorists are advised to plan extra time for their travels and stay informed through local traffic updates.
