Shoji Morimoto has found a way to get paid to do nothing. The 38-year-old man, who lives in Tokyo, has discovered that people will pay him to be a “do nothing rent-a-man.”

Though he’s been asked to help clean, do laundry, make chit chat, pose sans clothes, and any number of other requests, Morimoto makes it clear what his responsibilities are…to do nothing and to not initiate conversation. Period. And he’s booking up to three appointments a day for his services.(???)

As to who would hire him, Morimoto says he’s been asked to “be an audience for a struggling street musician,” “accompany painful outings to stores and restaurants,” and “share a cake with a lonely soul for her birthday.”
