Elderly man on mobility scooter injured in hit-and-run

POUGHKEEPSIE – City police are seeking witnesses to a Monday morning accident that injured an elderly city resident. The accident occurred in the vicinity of North Clinton and Mansion Streets in Poughkeepsie just after 8 a.m.
According to the victim, he was operating his mobility scooter near the intersection when he was struck by a flatbed trailer and knocked to the ground. He sustained a substantial laceration to his head when he struck the ground. The victim said the driver exited the truck, picked him up, and put him back in the scooter before getting back in the truck and leaving the scene. Police sources say that the driver did not provide any information to the victim before driving away from the accident.
The victim was treated at the scene by Poughkeepsie firefighters and Mobile Life medics before being transported to a local hospital.
Officers secured the scooter in a police vehicle and transported it for safe-keeping until the man is released from the hospital.
