LIBERTY – A 19-year-old Liberty resident was killed in a two-car accident on Route 55 in Liberty on Tuesday morning. State Police are investigating the fatal collision that also injured two men in the other vehicle in the crash.
The preliminary investigation, according to police says that Jake Ehrets, 19, was driving a 2004 Toyota Camry east on State Route 55 when he left the roadway, onto the south shoulder, swerved back onto the roadway, and crossed into the westbound lane of Route 55. The passenger side of Ehrets’ car was facing oncoming traffic and was struck by a 2014 Chevrolet pickup truck. The operator of the truck was unable to avoid hitting the car driven by Ehrets.
State Police say that Ehrets was pronounced dead at the scene and the two occupants of the truck were transported to Garnet Health Medical Center in Catskill with fractures and internal injuries.
