ALBANY – In a private ceremony with family members, Kathy Hochul was sworn in at midnight as New York governor. The former lieutenant governor becomes the 57th state leader and first woman to hold the position.
State Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson (D, Newburgh) has known the new governor for years and believes she will be a competent leader.
“She has risen up the ranks from local government. She served on a town board. She was a county clerk. She served in Congress. I think she will bring a breath of fresh air, a different style to Albany,” he said.
Andrew Cuomo, who resigned amid a sex scandal, was known for his tough, New York City style of governing.
