WAPPINGERS FALLS – Members of the New Hamburg Fire Department used their boat to locate and remove a man who drowned while swimming in the Wappinger Creek earlier Tuesday evening.
New Hackensack firefighters were dispatched to the creek in the vicinity of Helen Drive around 6 p.m. for areport of a possible drowning. They subsequently requested firefighters from Arlington and LaGrange along with New Hamburg FD and their boat to assist in the search.
The victim, described as a man in his 20s, was located by New Hamburg firefighters around 7:30 p.m. and removed from the water as a family member watched from shore.
