Delaware River claims fourth victim in days

BARRYVILLE – A 28-year-old Newark, Delaware man was the fourth man to drown in the Upper Delaware River in a week.
Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies said Tyre Thomas was with another adult and two children swimming in the river in Barryville around 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
The two children were wearing life jackets.
For some unknown reason, Thomas went under water and was not rescued for about 20 minutes.
EMS personnel performed CPR before he was transported to Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis were he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
Another man drowned in the Delaware off Port Jervis in Orange County.
Two other people drowned in Sullivan County lakes since this spring.
