POUGHKEEPSIE – A 21-year-old former Poughkeepsie resident on bail for attempted murder in connection with a February shooting has been arrested on a separate murder charge in the city. Carl Hannans was arrested on Tuesday, May 11 for the April 28 murder of Evan Davis.
According to Police Detective Lieutenant Matt Clark, Hannans, now a Rhinebeck resident, was arrested for the murder at the Martin Luther King Housing Project at 159 Washington Street. Sources tell Mid-Hudson News that Hannans was taken into custody Tuesday at 386 Main Street in Poughkeepsie at approximately 12:45 pm.
Hannans is being charged with one count of intentional murder, one count of depraved indifference murder, and one count of criminal possession of a weapon, after being indicted by a Dutchess County Grand Jury on those charges. He was brought to the Dutchess County Jail until his arraignment in Dutchess County Court.
Hannans is already facing felony charges of attempted murder, attempted robbery, criminal use of a firearm, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon related to the February 13 shooting of a teenager on Garden Street in Poughkeepsie. At the time he was also charged with the misdemeanor of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
When arraigned for the February incident, Hannans was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. His bail was posted shortly after arriving at the jail and he was subsequently released.
The Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office has not responded to a request for additional information.
