Red Hook man dies in house fire

RED HOOK – An early morning fire in Red Hook claimed the life of a 61-year-old occupant of the house. The fire was reported at 6:47 a.m. at 78 Rokeby Road on Wednesday.
The man has been identified as John Boles IV.
First responders from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, Red Hook and Tivoli Fire departments responded along with medics from Northern Dutchess Paramedics to the call that reported a man trapped in the house fire.
According to Sheriff’s Lieutenant Shawn Castano, deputies attempted to make entry into the residence; however, fire conditions prevented them from doing so. Once firefighters arrived, they made entry into the house, located the occupant, and determined that he was dead.
An investigation into the origin and cause of the fire is being conducted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, County Fire Investigation Division, and Red Hook Fire Department.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the cause to be accidental in nature and is not considered suspicious. Investigators will be working with the Dutchess County Medical Examiner to continue the investigation.
The Rhinebeck, Milan, and Ulster Hose Company all sent firefighters and equipment to the scene to assist. Officers from the State Police and Red Hook Police Department were also joined at the scene by representatives of Dutchess County Emergency Response.
