ALBANY – When the state was put on ‘pause’ at the pandemic rolled in one year ago, Catskill Regional Off-Track Betting offices closed their doors as did most all other businesses.
Little by little, businesses have been able to reopen with certain protocols in place, but there has been nothing said about OTB.
When the governor was questioned about that during a media conference call on Wednesday, he punted to his legal counsel, Beth Garvey.
“Off-track betting offices were never specifically closed. To the extent that we had limited racing occurring, I think there was very little for individuals to make wagers on during the height of the pandemic,” she said.
Garvey also said she would look into the issue further.
Catskill Regional Off-Track Betting has been handling wagering online, but that has produced a fraction of the income of in person betting at its parlors in the Hudson Valley.
