POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess County Transportation Council shared current findings for getting around based on studies and surveys they’ve been conducting in the county, Thursday evening, as part of their 25 year Moving Dutchess Forward initiative. The current results show that online engagement, safe intersections and mitigation of traffic congestion are of the highest priority to Dutchess residents.
According to a survey conducted by the council with approximately 350 participants, 91 percent drive as their primary source of transportation, with 26 percent and 10 percent also biking, or walking, respectively.
In the same survey, participants named the number one challenge as transit, with safe sidewalks being a close second. The top priorities for the community resulted in 42 percent wanting better walking options, 37 percent wanting reduced traffic congestion and 35 percent requesting improvements to public transit.
