Probation home visit leads to seizure of large cache of drugs

NEWBURGH – An Orange County Probation Department home visit in the City of Newburgh on February 11 resulted in the arrest of a 26-year-old man and the seizure of a large amount of drugs.
The arrest of Samuel Chavez for violation of his probationary terms as well as felony drug possession and endangering the welfare of a child was affected by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Probation Department.
Authorities seized over 22 pounds of marijuana, edible Gummies, THC cannabis concentrate oils, over 7.8 grams of crack cocaine and cash.
Chavez was also charged with intent to sell drugs and criminal use of drug paraphernalia.,
He was arraigned virtually before Orange County Court Judge Hyun Chin Kim on the probation violation charge and remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail, $100,000 bond, or $250,000 secured bond.
He was also virtually arraigned before Middletown City Court Judge Steven Brockett on the drug charges and released on his own recognizance.
“This joint effort between the probation department and the sheriff’s office is the most recent endeavor to get drugs off the streets and make the communities we live in safer,” said Acting Probation Director Timothy Davidian.
