GOSHEN – Approximately 1,000 people received their first dose of Moderna COVID-19 vaccinations on Thursday at an Orange County Point of Distribution center in Goshen.
The county Health Department collaborated with its Medical Reserve Corps Unit, the Department of Emergency Services and local medical providers to administer the vaccinations in a well-coordinated process.
“Orange County continues to administer 100 percent of the vaccination provided to us by the state,” said County Executive Steven Neuhaus. “The county has the capacity to vaccinate thousands of residents each week but supplies from the state and federal governments have been limited.” He said he will continue to advocate for county residents, seeking an adequate supply for those who want to be vaccinated.
The county previously received and administered over 1,000 doses over the last two weeks.
“As vaccine is slowly rolled out, residents should understand that the amount available is significantly less than what we currently need,” said County Health Commissioner Dr. Irina Gelman. “We are excited that we have been able to administer the 2,000 doses in the past few weeks, and we will continue to set up PODs as doses become available to us.”
