POUGHKEEPSIE – Marist College in the Town of Poughkeepsie has extended the temporary campus ‘pause’ until Wednesday October 14. All classes will remain remote on Monday and Tuesday.
School officials said as of last Thursday, new cases of COVID-19 were identified and they immediately implemented their procedures for contact tracing and additional testing of close contacts to previous positive cases. During that process, the college’s medical team discovered additional positive cases.
Officials have not publicly revealed how many positive cases have been traced.
The first group of students who tested positive had attended an off-campus party without following proper coronavirus protocols.
To address the virus infection issue, Marist is implementing two steps. The school is implementing multiple rounds of targeted COVID-19 student testing. All students must comply with the requests even if they have been tested recently.
The college has also instituted a “precautionary temporary quarantine for the Fulton Townhouses (1-15).
