TOWN OF NEWBURGH – Two men are under arrest for allegedly robbing a woman at gunpoint in the Town of Newburgh and Officer Thompson and his K-9 partner Durak are credited with recovering the gun used in the holdup late Saturday night.
Police said the men met a 32-year-old woman at the back entrance to the Thruway south rest stop at around 11:50 p.m. One of them pulled a gun and stole her money. As the robbers drove away, their vehicle hit the woman who was standing outside. She sustained minor injuries.
Town police located the getaway car a short time later on Quaker Street. They learned the gun has been tossed on that street at some point.
That is when Thompson and Durak successfully searched and recovered the weapon.
Arrested were Adam Colandrea, 36, of the Town of Newburgh and Steven Wolfe, 24, of the City of Newburgh. Both were charged with two counts of armed robbery.
Wolfe was also charged with escape after he shoved an officer and fled out the door of the police station. He was caught right away.
Wolfe was remanded to the Orange County Jail on $50,000 cash bail, $100,000 bond, or $200,000 partial bond. Colandrea was committed on $25,000 cash bail, $50,000 bond or $100,000 partial bond.
