Police arrest man for possessing 3.5 kilos of heroin

KINGSTON – An investigation by Kingston City Police into a hit-and-run auto accident led to the arrest of a Port Ewen man on a charge of drunk driven with further investigation resulted in his arrest on the most severe drug charges.

On July 10, the department’s Patrol Division investigated the accident in the area of Abeel and Ravine streets and the arrest of Cody Gilmore, 25, of Port Ewen. He was charged and released on an appearance ticket.

Members of the Special Investigations Unit of the police department continued to investigate stemming from Gilmore’s arrest and that led to search warrants being executed and the seizure of approximately 3.5 kilograms (7.7 pounds) of heroin, and 800 grams (1.7 pounds) of cocaine.

Gilmore was arrested for a second time on July 21 and charged with two counts of first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and one count of criminally using drug paraphernalia.

He was remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail.

SIU detectives are continuing their investigation into the manner.
