TOWN OF WALLKILL – A 41-year-old Town of Wallkill man was committed to the Orange County Jail on bail following a late-night fight with two Wallkill Police officers on Saturday, July 4.
Minutes before midnight Officers Daniel Traum-Steinberg and Joseph Levy responded to a report that a propane tank had been thrown in a bon fire at 190 Shaw Road.
When they arrived, the officers encountered resident Erik Holmgren who assaulted officer Tram-Steinberg.
The officer deployed a taser, but it failed to subdue Holmgren, who then tried to remove it from the officer and placed him in a choke hold.
When Officer Levy came to the aid of his colleague, Holmgren attempted to remove the cop’s duty issued firearm.
Holmgren was eventually taken into custody and charged with assault, attempted grand larceny, resisting arrest, harassment, strangulation and obstructing governmental administration.
He was arraigned and remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
Officer Traum-Steinberg suffered a fractured leg. Officer Levy was treated for lacerations.
