MID-HUDSON – Heavy rain, dotted with thunder shook parts of the Hudson Valley late Monday afternoon. The rain was welcomed because of the dry conditions in recent weeks.
While the rain came down in buckets in western Orange County and other areas of the region, southern Ulster County got a different form of precipitation.
The New Paltz and Clintondale areas were pummeled with golf ball size hail that damaged cars. The hail also rained down in the Walden area in smaller form.
One woman wrote on Facebook that the entire crop in her family’s apple orchard was destroyed by the hailstorm.
