An Oklahoma pediatrician has become a mom after adopting one of her patients and his sister.
Dr. Arvietta Edge first met D.J. and his younger sister Brianna when his foster parents brought him in to her for a checkup.
She says they had an instant bond and she told the foster family that she had always wanted to foster and adopt a child.
The foster parents were elderly and when they couldn’t care for the kids any longer, they reached out to Dr. Edge and wanted to know if she could take them. She did and fostered 10-year-old D.J. and seven-year-old Brianna before adopting them in May. Now she hopes to adopt again and add more siblings for her kids.
“It took us a moment to transition, but we’re a family,” Edge says. “I’m a mom and they’re my babies.”
