A Grandmother Has Created Hilarious “Quarantine Barbies”

Lots of people have been crafty and creative during their time at home, like this California grandmother who’s super relatable “quarantine Barbies” are going viral on social media.Tonya Ruizstarted making her Barbie parodies as something fun to do with her granddaughters. She had them pick out Barbies that look like realistic members of their family and they would dress them up with different props and post them onInstagramfor fun.

When the coronavirus hit, Ruiz decided to put a pandemic spin on things. She made quarantine Barbies that show what life is like for a lot of us these days. Her first was “Curvy Barbie in stretchy pants” and binge watch Barbie followed, then bread baking Barbie, Zoom Ken, and other funny Barbies, as well as a health care hero Barbie.

The grandma says she’s shocked by how many people have wanted to buy her creations, but she insists they’re just her “comedic commentary on the quarantine. “So many people said – finally a Barbie I can relate to,” Ruiz says. “I love that because that has been my message for years about body image. You can’t look like a Barbie. You’re a real woman.”
