Governor extends school budget vote ballot receipt by one week

Mail-In Voting Mailbox Letter
ALBANY – The school budget and board member mail-in vote remains June 9, but the governor has issued an executive order allowing hand-delivered ballots through 5 p.m. on the 9thand received by school districts in the mail through June 16.
State Senator Pete Harckham and Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson introduced legislation pushing the vote date back one week to the 16th, but said this action serves the same purpose, said Harckham.
“This is a good compromise and doing it through executive order ensures that it is done in a timely way,” he said. “I am pleased the governor did it and credit where credit is due, and it gives more opportunity for the voters to have their ballot counted.”
Poughkeepsie School Board President Felicia Watson said her district residents had not received their ballots as of Saturday’s mail.
“By extending it everyone should have the ability to vote and get their election ballot in,” she said.
A number of school districts statewide, including in the Hudson Valley, were unable to meet the mailing deadline because the company hired to print and mail the ballots had supply issues.
