Police Locally & Around the Nation Meet Protesters With Prayers & Hugs

Tensions between demonstrators and police are high in many places as people continue to protest the death of George Floyd in cities across the U.S. But in some places, officers are showing solidarity with protesters. Some have been hugging them, praying with them, and taking a knee with them in honor of Floyd.

These are a few of the heartwarming moments from these events:

·For the roughly 100 people who marched across the Mid-Hudson Bridge on Tuesday, it was a moment of solidarity as City of Poughkeepsie Police Chief Thomas Pape took a knee with a 12-year-old protester.

·In Atlanta, a line of police officers holding shields during a protest near Centennial Olympic Park kneeled in front of demonstrators. An officer wearing a gas mask, helmet, and vest was also seen hugging a demonstrator.

·Denver Chief of Police Paul Pazen linked arms with protesters and joined them.

·Terence Monahan, Chief of Department of the New York City Police hugged a demonstrator during a protest in New York City.

·Out in California, a protestor stopped to shake hands with a California Highway Patrol officer in Los Angeles.

·At least two police officers in Connecticut marched with demonstrators in Bristol.

·And in Minnesota, the state where Floyd was killed, a demonstrator and an officer shared a hug during a protest in St. Paul.
