NEWBURGH – Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh has eliminated 42 staff positions in a move “to help balance the college’s budget in the long-term,” school administration announced. None of the positions are faculty.
The college announcement said its endowment is financially sound and the college is not in danger of closing, but transitioning to online learning in the face of COVID-19 has “accelerated the need for action.”
In addition to the personnel changes, the college is implementing budget cuts and a hiring freeze for the coming academic year.”
“It is not sustainable for the college to continue to draw from the endowment for operating expenses,” said President Jason Adsit. “Instead, we needed to reduce the draw and create a balanced budget.
The college said it has no plans to eliminate existing academic programs and will continue to focus on growing its offerings to students.
