KINGSTON – Ulster County Executive Patrick Ryan has announced new housing initiatives to help residents who have been impacted by COVID-19.
The county has reallocated $150,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds for rental assistance, plans to expand the jurisdiction of the Kingston Land Bank, plans to promote the use of county-owned land for reuse, and to study the impact COVID-19 has had on housing.
Ryan noted housing is one of two key issues facing county residents.
“This issue keeps coming up as one of the two most pressing needs we are hearing across the board in the county. The tremendous pressure that our families and our workers and everyone are under are food need and food insecurity and the need for shelter and housing insecurity,” he said.
Ryan also said Ulster County has met all of the seven metrics needed to begin reopening the economy. The Hudson Valley has met five of the seven metrics leading him to believe the region could begin to reopen in the next couple of weeks.
