Saugerties PD issues auction house cease and desist order

SAUGERTIES – Police in Saugerties issues a cease and desist order on Monday to NJA Auctions at 3139 Route 9W in the town after they received 13 complaint referrals from the state on Pause enforcement task force reporting it was open for business. Since those types of stores are not considered essential under the governor’s executive order, police responded.
NJA Auctions, owned by Steve Jolly of Saugerties, had posted signs on the doors of the business advising customers that wearing a mask was not mandatory and that social distancing rules were not enforced.
On Monday, an official of the town building department accompanied by Saugerties Police served the owner with the order to close down.
That promoted Jolley to post a lengthy Facebook rant saying he opened because it is “about our rights and our freedoms.”
