Drive-by graduations salute class of 2020

Graduate Together: America Honors the High School Class of 2020
TOWN OF WALLKILL – With much of the country on “pause” because of the coronavirus pandemic, schools have been closed for months with education continuing remotely online.
So, for graduating classes from high school to college, traditional ceremonies have been scrapped. Some schools are conducting drive-in movie graduations while other members of the class of 2020 are marking the occasion with police and fire department drive-bys as caravans pass their homes with sirens and horns honking.
Allysun Adams of the Town of Wallkill just graduated from Mount Saint Mary’s College in Newburgh and she was the recipient of one such drive-by tribute on Saturday.
“It’s really sad but it’s understandable because I would rather not have a graduation, and everybody be safe. But hopefully, they will be able to do something in the future,” she said.
Allysun earned her four-year degree in business administration and management. She had applied for jobs, but given the pandemic, she will be spending time at home with her dad, Chris, mom, Jean, and brother, Chris.
