Newburgh mayor ‘disgusted’ over water splashing of homeless man

NEWBURGH – A video that has gone viral showing a person spilling water on a homeless man as he slept on a residential street in the City of Newburgh is “disgusting, unnecessary and unacceptable,” said Mayor Torrance Harvey.
The persons who committed the act while it was recorded have since apologized, said the mayor. But still, he said it was not right.
Harvey chalks it up to people being uptight about the pandemic situation.“Everyone is on edge at this time. People aren’t working or are overworked if they are essential workers. This is something we never experienced before so I get it, but there is no justification for any acts of hatred, any acts such as that of unkindness to someone who is homeless,” the mayor said.
Harvey said since the incident, people have reached out to the homeless man offering him money and other items.
