WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, National Nurses Appreciation Day, Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (D, NY-18) introduced legislation to provide healthcare workers and essential workers on the frontlines of COVID-19 with federal income tax relief.
The Hudson Valley lawmaker’s bill is aimed at putting money back in the pockets of those working at ground zero of the pandemic.
“The idea is to provide New York’s healthcare professionals and essential workers who are working on the front lines to give them real tax relief to give them a refundable tax credit, $7,500 as a tangible, additional compensation to say thank you and honor them for what they have done, not just in words but in deeds,” Maloney said.
The bill would include a provision that allows a tax exemption on income less than $100,000 earned through the declared COVID-19 national emergency for all essential employees.
