KINGSTON – Ulster County Executive Patrick Ryan has assembled business advisory groups to begin discussions of economic revival once the state gives the green light.
That includes bringing new leadership to the county Industrial Development Agency, Ryan said. Business owners and community leaders “do not have confidence in the current leadership,” he said.
Residents of two of the county’s 13 nursing homes have been tested for COVID-19 and the county executive is seeking state resources to test everyone in the remaining facilities.
State Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson (D, Newburgh), meanwhile, Thursday, called for state aid to test nursing homes on a monthly basis, particularly in light of the high rate of COVID-19 in one particular facility in Ulster County – Ten Broeck Commons.
Ryan also wants to protect the patients as staff members get sick.“As their staff starts to, some of them, get positive results back, we are working to get more staff to help supplement the senior facilities to make sure that they have adequate folks there to care for all the seniors there,” he said.
Reforming the county IDA has the support of Legislature Chairman David Donaldson, who said lawmakers will “work with urgency in order to ensure that we have an IDA that will do the work needed to help our local businesses and grow our economy.”
