Poughkeepsie fire displaces residents, claims cats

POUGHKEEPSIE – A fire Sunday afternoon at 40 Manitou Avenue in the City of Poughkeepsie displaced residents while some pet cats perished.
According to Fire Chief Mark Johnson, city 911 received a call reporting a fire on a second-floor bedroom at the residence at 12:59 p.m. Upon arrival, Poughkeepsie firefighters encountered the fire and were able to contain it to the bedroom area. All occupants in the structure were able to escape without injury.
Firefighters were able to use a “pet mask” to revive one of the cats located in the building.
Poughkeepsie’s firefighters were assisted at the scene by the Arlington and Fairview Fire Departments, as well as Mobile Life Support Services.
The displaced residents were said to be making arrangements for a place to stay.
