WASHINGTON – The House of Representatives, Thursday evening, approved the latest package of stimulus legislation to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and its negative health and economic effects.
The Hudson Valley’s Democratic delegation voted for the package.
Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (D, NY-18) said he voted in favor of it because it provides billions for small businesses with paycheck protection and includes more money for hospitals and for COVID-19 testing.
Maloney said more needs to be done, but he voted for what the legislation includes.
“We need to do more to help state and local governments, we need to do more to jumpstart our economy, we should repeal the tax bill that took away state and local tax deductions for New Yorkers; that would help us a lot. We need to invest in infrastructure and do other things that will grow the economy,” he said.
Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D, NY-17), said Republicans “refused to support state and local governments or expand food assistance for the vulnerable, and Democrats are determined to address this in the next package.”
The Senate approved the legislation earlier this week.
