Cause of fire in vacant Poughkeepsie home under investigation

TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – Arlington firefighters responded to reports of a house fire on Thursday afternoonat approximately 3:10 pm on South Road in the area of the Greenbrier Condos, located at 2740 South Road.
The fire engine from the Croft Corners station arrived within 3 minutes of dispatch and observed the 2ndfloor of an apparently vacant building heavily involved in fire. A 2ndalarm was called for at 3:15 pm, bringing additional Arlington units to the scene, as well as Mobile Life Support, and the City of Poughkeepsie FD. 
Arlington Fire Chief William Steenbergh said “The fire was extinguished within 30 minutes. The second floor of the structure sustained heavy damage from the fire and one firefighter suffered a minor injury.”
Assisting at the scene of the fire were the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department, Mobile Life Support Services, Town of Poughkeepsie Building Department, Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, and Central Hudson Gas & Electric. The New Hamburg, Pleasant Valley, and Roosevelt Fire Districts were dispatched to standby in Arlington stations. 
The origin and cause of the fire was investigated by the Arlington Fire District Fire Investigation Division. The fire originated in the living room portion of the building, on the 2ndfloor. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by fire investigators and the Town of Poughkeepsie Police. All units were back in service by 6:30 pm. 
This was the second structure fire within the Arlington Fire District in less than 24 hours. Previously, a fire at Popeye’s Restaurant on Haight Ave. during the evening of April 22 whichalso required a 2ndalarm response. In the 24 hour period from 6 pm on April 22 to 6 pm on April 23, the Arlington Fire District responded to 22 incidents; two second-alarm structure fires, 2 minor cooking fires, 3 automatic fire alarms, and 15 EMS incidents, of which 5 involved suspected or known COVID-19 patients.
