WASHINGTON – The Senate has passed the new legislation providing supplemental funding for small business programs including the Paycheck Protection Program and Economic Injury Disaster Loans and Emergency grants, as well as funding for hospitals and COVID-19 testing.
Congressman Antonio Delgado (D, NY-19) pushed for and won, Small Business Administration loan and grant funds for farmers. He said small farmers in his district have taken a hit because of the pandemic and its economic consequences.
“Inability of our fruit and vegetable growers to sell directly now to restaurants or schools or any local provider or supplier,” he said. “And I think the ability to sort of help that void or fill that gap is critically important.”
The legislation makes small farmers eligible for Emergency Injury Disaster Loans of up to $2 million and the emergency grants of up to $10,000.
The House of Representatives is expected to take up the legislation tomorrow (Thursday).
