Update on COVID-19 with United Way

United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region responds to COVID-19 in our community. We are using your donations immediately to provide critical help daily as the need grows tremendously.

This week . . .

·We paid for4,000 meals for families without any safety net including formerly homeless individuals in our community.

·We kept 2 community college student families housed who are in emergency situations due to COVID-19.

·We purchased grocery store gift cards for 20 single mothers who are the sole support of their families.

·We had Emiliano's Pizza in Poughkeepsie deliver lunch to some of Poughkeepsie first responders, including medical staff at MidHudson Regional Hospital and the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department.

·We sent much needed supplies, including toilet paper to a shelter serving domestic violence survivors and their families.

·We provided diapers to families living paycheck to paycheck who couldn't find any as shelves were bare due to panic buying.

·United Way's 2-1-1 Helpline received 8,568 COVID-19 related calls in the past seven weeks and more are received every hour.

·This is National Volunteer Week and we have virtual volunteer activities for every day. Join us and share your how you're volunteering on social media: www.uwdor.org/nvw2020.

·We invite you to join us at 8:00pm on Fridays to SHINE UNITED! Light a candle, put up holiday lights, shine a light bright and show your support for everyone on the frontline battling against COVID-19.
