Cricket Valley power plant turned on

DOVER – The 1,100-megawatt Cricket Valley electric generating plant in Dover has been turned on and is in commercial operation.
The facility is powered by a combustion gas turbine that burns fracked gas piped in from Pennsylvania.
Attorney Josh Douglass represents a nearby neighbor who has challenged the construction.
Douglass said the project is a contradiction to New York’s energy policy.
“They banned fracking in the State of New York because of the deleterious effects on health and also on the planet, and hypocritically they went out of the State of New York; they are going into Pennsylvania to obtain fracked gas and burn it at this facility in Dover, New York,” he said.
Douglass continues a court battle for his client over the operation of the plant.
This isn’t the first area electric generating plant using fracked gas from Pennsylvania. The CPV plant in Wawayanda went online about a year ago. That facility has also faced a large amount of opposition from the local community.
Cricket Valley officials could not be reached for comment on Monday.
