KINGSTON – City Police in Kingston have arrested a local couple on charges of criminally negligent homicide in connection with the drowning death of their six-month-old child.
Police were called to 59 Gill Street at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 18 for a possible drowning of a baby.
Officers, Kingston firefighters and Mobile Life Support Services personnel began CPR on the unresponsive child who was transported to Health Alliance Broadway campus where the baby was pronounced dead. Police did not reveal the sex of the child.
An investigation into the incident determined the parents had placed the baby in a tub with the water running and left it unsupervised for a substantial amount of time. They discovered the unresponsive child in the tub and called 911.
Jordan Balcom, 29, and Ashante Inniss, 26, both of Gill Street, Kingston, were charged with criminally negligent homicide.
Balcom was also charged with criminal contempt and aggravated family offense, both as felonies, stemming from an incident earlier in the day where he allegedly violated a no-harassment order of protection.
Kingston Police were assisted by the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office and investigators from the Ulster County Child Advocacy Center.
