An ambulance seemed to lose sight of the fact that a passenger of theirs was no longer on board. Now a woman is in critical condition after she tumbled out of the back of an ambulance in Russia. To make matters worse, the paramedics didn’t notice that she was gone for at least 16 miles down the road.
Galina Dmitriyeva was being shuttled between hospitals the day of the incident after she was feeling dizzy and breathless. Doctors determined it would be best if she went to another nearby hospital and transported her there.
On the way there, the paramedic sat in front with the driver, leaving Dmitriyeva alone in the back. When she tried to stand up to let the paramedics know that she wasn't feeling well, she fell backward and somehow unlocked the door and fell out the back of the ambulance.
The distracted ambulance crew continued to drive for another 16 miles before they realized what had happened. The paramedics could spend up to a year behind bars and some staff members have been reprimanded.
The woman is still recovering from her injuries.
