On Tuesday, when Michelle, Uncle Mike and I went to Netherwood Elementary School in Hyde Park to record the individual classes of children reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, for our "Q in the Classroom" feature, I was being escorted to the first class (or so I supposed) by Principal Daley when he suddenly wanted me to see something in another room. Well!! What I saw was just one of the best sights I've ever seen: the entire school--all the students, teachers, staff (and even Cameron) who filled the huge room to wish me Happy Retirement. Every child had written me a note! I've begun reading them all, and each one is so special. No one can speak from the heart like a child. What an amazing, truly unforgettable experience. I was and am deeply touched. If any of you students, parents, teachers and staff who participated in this amazingly thoughtful send-off are reading this, please accept my deepest gratitude for your great kindness--especially all the terrific kids it is has and will continue to be my pleasure to meet. It's pretty terrific knowing I'm on their radar--even if sometimes it's only because I'm the guy on the radio who tells them to stay home when it snows.
By the way, the students of Netherwood Elementary School will be featured all next week reciting the Pledge of Allegiance on our "Q in the Classroom" feature just after 7:00 every morning.
