How "Florida Man" Came to Be (And Some of My Favorite Headlines)

We've all seen the headlines, "Florida Man Throws Alligator Through Window" "Florida Man Attacked During Selfie With Squirrel", and if you're like me you've wondered why all the crazy stuff seems to happen in Florida. Well I think it's safe to say that crazy things happen all over the country but Florida is the only state with over 1,000 public record exemptions. All any journalist has to do is call a police station and simply ask for the arrest record and they'll have an amazing story.

From the Miami New Times:

Since 1909, Florida has had a proud tradition that all government business is public business and therefore should be available to the public. That means all records, including photos and videos, produced by a public agency are easily accessible with a few narrow and obvious exceptions. Public officials are also required to open all of their meetings — even unofficial ones — to the public.

So in the spirit of Florida man, what are some of my favorite headlines? I'm glad you asked.
