Wednesday, Michelle and I traveled to Dutchess BOCES Career and Technical Institute to present our Q92 Teacher of the Month Award to Mrs. Sharon Myers, Skills USA Advisor and Cosmetology teacher. She was nominated by one of her students, Annie Davidson, pictured above standing between Michelle and Mrs. Myers.
Michelle and I love making these presentations, recognizing outstanding teachers in the Hudson Valley, and always the teacher is very pleased to be honored, but once in a while we find a teacher who is just so excited and appreciative that there are tears shed, and not just by the teacher, but by her students and members of the Administration who attend the presentation.
Annie Davidson wrote a wonderful letter nominating Mrs. Myers. Among other wonderful words, Annie said, "Mrs. Myers saw something inside of me when I didn't, she makes me, as well as all the students in our class, feel as though they can achieve whatever they want in life." Wow.
Who could ask for higher praise or for more happiness than what comes from making a difference in the life of even one young person! Teachers touch the lives of many young people, and we are happy to be able to recognize Mrs. Myers for her from-the-heart service to her students, and by extension, to our community.
In addition to the plaque, Mrs. Myers received other gifts, including a $100 gift certificate from Cosimo's in Poughkeepsie, and a $100 gift card from TEG Federal Credit Union to use for something special for her class.
We'll announce the next Q92 Teacher of the Month on Monday. It's not too late to enter your favorite teacher--find out all the details here.
