Throwback Thursday - The Famous Prize Wheel!

It was back in the 1980s that the radio station I worked at purchased our very first prize wheel, which was discovered at an antique store (I don't remember where).  It was old and battered, but we brought it back  to life and had it repainted by Leif Syvertsen in New Windsor.  It looked as good as new, maybe better.  Then the fun began, as it went with us everywhere, and even as this radio station changed formats we'd have the wheel re-painted, reflecting the current sound of the station, and kept it in service for as long as I can remember.

Pictured here is the mid-1990s edition of the wheel, featuring, instead of numbers, the names of our talk show personalities, including David Brenner, The Fabulous Sports Babe, Lee Mirabal, and even Dawn Spicer, our morning show newsperson at that time.

I wouldn't be surprised if the prize wheel is back in an antiques store somewhere, waiting for someone to appreciate it, or in someone's basement entertainment room.  We always had fun with it, and I like to think someone else is continuing the legacy.

I can't explain those sunglasses.  Possibly a "Top Gun" influence going on.  They are most definitely gone, as are those pants which, because they were truly indestructible, eventually wore out Charlotte's patience and one day simply "disappeared."  So many sad goodbyes . . .

I have two more very amusing pictures featuring that prize wheel, but I will save them for another time.
