Kelly Clarkson Finally Addresses 'Baby, It's Cold Outside' Remake Backlash

Kelly Clarkson tried to have a sense of humor about people’s outrage about the rendition of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” she recorded with John Legend.

The American Idol winner invited the R&B crooner’s wife, Chrissy Teigen, as a special guest for Tuesday’s episode (November 19) of The Kelly Clarkson Show, during which the pair discussed the controversy surrounding Clarkson and Legend’s cover of Frank Loesser’s 1944 Christmas song. In an effort to modernize the tune for the #MeToo era, the Voice coaches incorporated new verses into their version, as those of Loesser’s original have been criticized for being suggestive of date rape.

"Did you not hear that John and I ruined Christmas recently?" Clarkson quipped to Teigen. "I was like,' How did I mess that up?’”

"Sharon Osbourne, man. She hates you guys," Teigen responded with a laugh, referring to The Talk cohost slamming the musicians’ “ridiculous” update, to which Clarkson exclaimed, “She was just on my show!”

Clarkson then went more in-depth about what inspired her and Legend to change the lyrics. “He had this idea, because of the #MeToo movement, they pulled 'Baby, It's Cold Outside' from any radio. Like, a lot of radio stations at Christmas,” she said.

"Well, I love that song. We like the original, but we noticed that a lot of people didn't. So we were like, 'Let's just give them another option.' And apparently, we killed Christmas."
