Florida Beggar Arrested After Threatening Woman Who Wouldn't Give Her $1

A 46-year-old panhandler in Florida was arrested after she allegedly threatened a woman who refused to give her $1. Police say Melanie Leff was begging for money on a busy four-lane road in Bradenton when she threatened to beat up a bystander who was walking by.

When deputies arrived, they found Leff yelling obscenities at a person in their car while they were stopped a red light. She was "was extremely aggressive and verbally abusive" toward officers as they took her into custody. She is facing charges of panhandling and engaging in conduct that implies a threat of injury.

This is not the first time Leff has been arrested. In 2018, she was charged with misuse of 911 after calling the emergency number on officers responding to complaints she was panhandling. After she was taken into custody, Leff managed to call 911 a second time while sitting in the back of a police car. She also has previous arrests for trespassing, possession of drug paraphernalia, disorderly conduct, and panhandling.
