You know what it's like, you can't sleep and you're up browsing Youtube at 2 in the morning. We've all been there. Well in one of these late night perusals I came across an interesting genre of video. ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response and apparently a lot of people are using these videos to relax.
Autonomous sensory meridian response(ASMR) is an experience characterized by a static-like or tingling sensation on the skin that typically begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine. It has been compared with auditory-tactile synesthesiaand may overlap with frisson.
ASMR signifies the subjective experience of "low-grade euphoria" characterized by "a combination of positive feelings and a distinct static-like tingling sensation on the skin". It is most commonly triggered by specific auditory or visual stimuli, and less commonly by intentional attention control.
Apparently it's one of those things you either have or don't have, I definitely experience this sensation while watching these videos but everyone else I've shown them to just looks at me like I have three heads. What about you? I'll leave some ASMR examples below, let me know if they're relaxing or creepy.
