The Blessing of the Animals will take place on Sat., May 30, noon to 4pm, with a rain date of Sun., May 31, 1-5pm This will be our 4th year, and, as such, this event has become an annual Rhinebeck "happening" attracting 200 plus local and out of state visitors. The Blessing will start with a brief opening ceremony. All furred, finned, scaled and feathered friends are invited to attend with their companion people.
An outdoor free family-oriented event, The Blessing of the Animals is hosted by the Third Lutheran Church at 31 Livingston Street in the heart of Rhinebeck. Our goal is to strengthen the human-animal bond by celebrating the 111th anniversary of "Be Kind to Animals Week." This is the oldest commemorative week in US history, started by American Humane. The charity was established in 1877 and remains committed to ensuring the safety, welfare and well-being of all animals.
Besides an individual hands-on blessing by Pastor James Miller, the church's great lawn will be filled with exhibits by local animal charities and others including Animal Farm Foundation, P.A.N.T., Hope Farm Animal Rescue, Hope for Dogs PR, State Police Canine Unit, Two By Two Animal Haven, Dr, Laura Jaworski, and Holly Mentzer. Each charity has an Ambassador Animal representing them. Last year 4-H's pet division was a most welcome addition. Event sponsors include Adams Fairacre Farms, Williams Lumber and Home Centers, and Arlington Wine & Liquor.
The "Pet Remembrance Tree" is available for tributes to pets who have passed away, During the event folks can place items directly on the tree ... photos, paw prints, favorite toy, leash, etc.
To ensure the safety of ALL, pet visitors must be properly escorted, leashed, kenneled or harnessed. Pooper scooper laws do apply and pick up bags will be available.
