ALBANY – The state legislature has adjourned for the rest of the year, but the Senate Committee on Investigations is continuing its look into allegedly faulty bolts on the Governor Cuomo Tappan Zee Bridge.
The State Thruway Authority has been adamant about its stance that there was never anything wrong with the bolts and that the twin-span bridge connecting Westchester and Rockland is structurally sound.
But, that has not halted an investigation by the Senate committee headed by Senator James Skoufis (D, Cornwall), who said a review of the situation is continuing.
“The Thruway Authority is one stakeholder here and we want to give respect and do our due diligence with the whistleblower, with some of the folks working on-site, so we are trying to paint ourselves a picture here and understand what exactly happened, what’s the story, even if the bridge is safe now, was there impropriety that happened during construction that has since been remedied and if so, what was that,” Skoufis said.
The Thruway Authority has repeatedly said the bridge is perfectly safe and that experts have examined the bolts and found them to pose absolutely no problem with the structures.
