Daytime shooting under investigation

POUGHKEEPSIE – City of Poughkeepsie Police are investigating a Pershing Avenue shooting that sent two victims to the hospital just before noon on Sunday.
The incident occurred near 20 Pershing Avenue and Maple Street. A weapon was recovered near the Mobile Life Support Services station.
Detective Lieutenant Matt Clark said one victim is a 32-year-old male Poughkeepsie resident with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the arm and leg.
The victim with more serious wounds is a 28-year-old Poughkeepsie man. He was shot in the area of his nose and the bullet is lodged in his neck area. He has been transported out of the area for further treatment. He is expected to survive.
Both victims had been transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital in a private vehicle before police responded to the scene.
The man with the lesser injuries stated he was walking down the street when the second victim was shot. The man told police that he went to help the victim and was subsequently shot. The man was unable to provide any additional information, according to the police.
The second victim told the police that he was not interested in assisting with the investigation.
Clark said a witness in the area heard arguing, and then shots. This witness could provide no further information.
