Minisink Valley JROTC continues tradition of honoring veterans

GOSHEN – Dozens of Minisink Valley High School students, members of the Junior ROTC, spent all Tuesday morning placing flags at the graves of some 3,600 veterans and their spouses who are buried at the Orange County Veterans Cemetery in Goshen.
It is an annual tradition by the students to honor those who have gone before us, said high school senior Alissa Romero, the battalion commander at the school unit, said it is an honor to place the flags.
“ Obviously, it is very sad because we are at a cemetery. It is also very amazing that you have so many people here who were willing to serve and fight for their country. They have done a brilliant thing,” she said.
After graduation in June, Alissa will attend college with her career goal to study law and become an attorney.
County Executive Steven Neuhaus was also at the cemetery. “We owe them our deepest respect and gratitude and should ever take their sacrifices for granted,” he said.
