SUNY campuses could reopen in fall

MIDDLETOWN – SUNY campuses, like so many other colleges around the state, went from on-campus to remote learning when COVID-19 consumed the world last year, but SUNY Chancellor James Malatras is hopeful that classroom education will be able to resume later this year.
During a stop at the SUNY Orange campus in Middletown on Tuesday, Malatras said all of the university system’s schools are getting the upper hand on the virus.
“Having our students and faculty and staff fully vaccinated will only allow us to be more in person because many of our students are demanding that frankly. They want to come back. This has been a trying year for students; it has been a trying year for everyone,” he said. “We are going to take the good of COVID. I think there are ways to supplement in-person instruction with high-quality online instruction that opens up doors for students to take a class here and take a class at another SUNY school, but our goal is to have our campuses fully reopened in the fall.”
Many SUNY campuses are being used as mass vaccination sites.
